March 23, 2016There is no one size fits all when it comes to carpeting, and to the processes used to clean them. Each carpet cleaning assignment is unique as the carpeting can be as distinct and individual as the persons who own them. Not just in color or pattern, but in the physical character and composition of the carpeting itself. When considering purchasing carpeting for your home or office it might be useful to think about the strengths and differences of each type of carpet before making the acquisition. Carpeting is something that’s going to be around for a long time, so choose wisely before the installation occurs.
There are so many different styles and patterns of carpeting that a floor covering encyclopedia would be necessary to explore each type in detail. The following, in contrast, is a general overview of some of the main carpeting styles available in today’s marketplace.
Loop Pile is a form of long lasting Berber style carpeting that features fabric loops of a uniform height. Creating what is considered an informal design appearance carpeting of this type is noted for its ability to survive well in high traffic areas. In terms of style, carpets of this type will often feature a light colored background accented with darker flecks. It is considered a good choice for cottages and other less than formal residential uses.
Cut Pile carpeting is one of the Golden Oldies of the carpeting universe, having been used by home builders for decades. Despite its vintage lineage Cut Pile carpeting is still one of the most popular carpet types used today. Long wearing, resistant to compression and thanks to the highly twisted yarns used in its manufacture, carpeting of this type is a good choice for high-traffic areas.
Patterned Loop or Multi-level Loop Pile carpeting will typically be recognized by its patterned effect. Not a deep pile style of carpeting, Patterned Loop carpets are manufactured employing two to three different fabric loop heights. This slight variety in fabric heights will create the pattern effects this form of floor covering is noted for. A durable and long lasting style, carpets of this type are common in households or anywhere a casual look is preferred.
A Cut-Loop Pile carpet is one that has been manufactured using a technique that combines cut and looped yarns into the same fabric. This style of floor covering features a variety of surface textures, including sculptured effects incorporating squares chevrons or swirls. The multi-color effects hide soil and stains. Another long wearing carpet, it is commonly used in residential applications.
Textured Plush carpeting is considered by designers to be among the most decoratively versatile style of floor covering. A preferred form for high traffic and residential uses, Textured Plush carpeting’s patterning helps to hide footprints and vacuum marks. Designers consider this to be a carpeting that can be used anywhere in the home.
Saxony carpeting offers a more refined surface, but is not as long wearing as other types cataloged above. More traditional and formal in its presentation, carpeting of this type works well with traditional interiors and is considered the perfect choice for carpeting dining and living rooms.
Carpeting manufactured employing the Friezé style are those that feature a textured or curly surface. This effect is created by densely twisting the yarns used in the carpeting fabric. Good for every day usage Friezé style carpets offer an informal look. Thanks to the density of the fabric carpets of this type do not easily show footprints or vacuum cleaner marks.
While not as common a sight in residential applications, Plush otherwise known as Velvet carpeting is noted for its soft, dense and luxurious feel. A special use fabric, carpets of this type easily show vacuum cleaner marks and footprints. Not intended for daily use, Velvet carpeting is best installed in formal rooms or other low traffic areas.
The styles briefly explored above are just some of the more common carpeting types in use today. As mentioned at the very beginning, carpeting can be as varied as the persons who own them. If you are considering changing or installing carpeting in your home do a little research to find the style that works best for your application. It’s also a very good idea to talk with your floor covering contractor to find the carpet that best meets your needs and budget.
